Welcome the game's artist!(and my stuff too I guess)

The game now has art made specifically for the game itself. Please welcome /u/ECHTECHT! He has so far provided "Go Back" and "Explore" buttons, and art for other Elf's World characters, with more to come!

As for my contribution, I'm currently working on a new feature of the game, and that is item crafting!

You can put several items in the crafting box. If you followed the recipe right(or just guessed the way an item is crafted by yourself correctly), the items will disappear, and a new item will be made. A lot of the possible item results will not have any recipe, and it will be up to you to find out how they are crafted through your own JonTron related wisdom.

A JonTron Adventure- Public Alpha Downloads

Downloads for the latest version, "0.1 Beginnings without birds"-

Windows ; OS X ; Linux32 ; Linux64

Downloads for all versions:

"0.1 Beginnings without birds" Win32 ; OSX32 ; Linux32 ; Linux64

Warning- OS X version may not work. If it does work on your machine, please write back to me, as I have been unable to test the game on my own Mac and would like to know how.

A JonTron Adventure: Public Alpha!

A JonTron Adventure is finally going public!

The game is now available for download for everyone in order to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of JonTron!

You take control of Jon Jafari, and explore the lands that are based on the games he reviewed, such as Elf's World and Dinosity. While you do that, you have to find various items in order to make yourself stronger and be able to fight your way through battles so that you could get to the other parts of the world. In a way, this game is inspired by Candy Box 2, which you should also play if you enjoyed this game.

..And of course, it's inspired by JonTron! And by that, I don't mean just JonTronShow, or Jon Jafari. I also mean the community behind it. If it wasn't for fan creations like YTPs, Game Grumps remixes, fan art, discussion, and just straight up having fun, I wouldn't think "Hey, this person named Virtual_Ninjendo says he wants a JonTron game to happen, and I can make video games, and I also love whatever JonTron is right now. Man, what a huge coincidence!"

The gameplay of A JonTron Adventure is a mix between RPGs and point and click adventure games. Most of the time is spent in the overworld, but in order to gain access to the rest of the world, you have to beat enemies in various battlefields.

I've had a lot of fun making this game, and I'm not even done yet! This is just the Public Alpha version, so don't expect a well polished game with AAA graphics(yet). I'm going to add much more content to the game in later versions, too, so please look forward to that.

Click here to go to the Downloads page and get the game.

The object type known as "LilJon".

This was supposed to be up a week ago. I've had very specific problems. Sorry.

The overworld is now quite different from the other areas. As you can see in this gif, there's a little JonTron sprite following your mouse around to wherever area you want to go.

"Jesus Christ, learn how to make gifs not look like shit." - Jacques

Every other area is unaffected by this change, just like the scrolling camera in overworlds update. You still click on stuff to go to stuff.

Also, as you might know, you can now save in this game. Well, after adding 1 line of code, I've moved the saving and loading buttons from the Inventory to the Options layout, which I'm planning to have more than just saving.

"And change the background already. It's getting redundant. And you know what I'll use on you when something in the game is redundant." - Jacques

Save games

Yes, there's now saving. The feature that you've been waiting for since Action Gamemaster.

In the text box, you enter the name of your slot. Then, you can save/create a slot by that name if you press the Save button, or load a slot with that name.

A list of all the currently saved slots will be coming soon. I'll probably make it a separate layout from the Inventory.

Defenses

Currently working on the programming for defensive items like shields, armor and stuff.
Each attackable thing has a "defense" variable, which determines the percentage of the damage that is blocked, for example, if the defense is 0 and an attack is equal to 10, then the damage is 10, but if defense is 20%, then 2 damage is taken off from the attack, resulting in an 8 damage attack.

This all means that, well, Jon ain't gonna equip just weapons anymore.

First sounds

Working on basic sound. While with the graphics, I'll try to make them look as good as I can with my materials, the sound will remain on a consistent style, mostly reminiscent of the NES/Commodore 64 sound. Here's some of the sounds I may be using.

Closed Alpha Hype!

Here's a screenshot of the Dinosity Ancient Ruins insides. This is Game Fillip, and he's blocking your path. He does look different, though..

This game is now officially 3 months old! That's another milestone, and it results in another slowdown in the pace of the screenshots and updates. That's because I'm very close to making a closed alpha version of this game!

I've made a sort of an application form that you can fill in with your info as to why you want to join the early playtesting. You can see more info on the Reddit post of this:

Onwards to Dinosity

I've done the 3D model of the Dinosity Ancient Ruins. It was hard as fuck, I've little to no experience with making 3D models, making the renders in the correct angle and position was painful, but I'm finally done. Now I'm importing the renders into C2, and placing the needed sprites and objects onto them.

Title Screen v1

Now there's a title screen for this game. It's black at first, then the narrator says "Welcome to, JonTron the Game!", and the title screen fades in. The music for the title screen is made by BashemanMusic.

The fireball has no use?

Now the fireball is actually used in the game's balance. With it, you can finally pass the Dinosity Ancient Ruins' entrance, as the enemies there are pretty hard. The whole ruins are now balanced around all the abilities that the player could have had before. The desert is also being moved, as the desert has many items that would break the game if they were introduced early on.

Dinosity Ancient Ruins 3D: Lost In The Tropics

After defeating the enemies of the Dinosity Ruins Entrance, you can go into the ruins themselves, now inhabited by an unknown civilization. Here's a screenshot of the ruins:
This looks like a 3D model, and that's because it is. Now, don't worry, I'm not suddenly switching the game into a 3D engine, thus undoing all my work. I'm doing the 3D model of the dungeon, and then doing a 2D render. After that, I will put all the 2D game objects, enemies and people on to the render, as seen here:

JonTron: The Timeline

Welcome to the JonTron Timeline Project! In this, I try to uncover JonTron’s mysteries, like the disappearance of The Hat, by putting all the episodes in the correct chronological order.

I’ve split all the JonTron episodes in Eras: some periods of time that all have something in common. We’ll start at the beginning- The Jacqueless Era.

As you may know, Jacques isn’t present or mentioned at all in some of the episodes. This is because he simply didn’t exist. He wasn’t engineered or programmed yet. Who would be Jacques’ engineer, then? That would obviously be JonTron himself. In one of the episodes, JonTron messed with Jacques’ circuit board, thus confirming that he can modify Jacques’ software and hardware. And as no other person in the show was confirmed to be able to modify Jacques, JonTron is the only option left.
Jon Jafari was a lonely person(as seen in Clock Tower), and he made Jacques to be his friend. But he wasn’t always a bird. In Barbie Games, there existed a program called iJacques. Why would there be iJacques if Jon already has Jacques? Well, iJacques is Jacques. He just doesn’t have a physical body, yet. Of course, later, Jon decided to put the program into a physical body. This places Barbie Games in The Jacqueless Era. There is one thing that contradicts this, and that’s the “Systemic Oppression” skit in the beginning, which has Jacques asking what the hell Jon is doing. That means that the skit takes place long AFTER the review chronologically. It may sound farfetched, but there’s really no explanation for Jon not to have Jacques on his shoulder, and plus, why would he use an older version of Jacques, iJacques, when he has a real Jacques?

When exactly did Jacques get a body? After numerous episodes without Jacques, that would be Daikatana. This is the first episode in the Jacques Introduction Era, the era when Jon is only getting used to Jacques  and doesn’t know his full power yet. In Daikatana, Jon sort of introduced Jacques as a character to the “viewers”, something he never did and will do again, which makes it the first episode that contains Jacques.

The next episode in Jacques Introduction is Conan Games, and it serves an important role in figuring out the purpose of The Hat.

In Conan the Barbarian, Jacques is out of his mind. He only uses his “Alarm and Kill” function, and his conscience isn’t turned on, and thus he killed Paul. Why? JonTron wouldn’t just set the alarm to literally kill everything on sight, he has SOME sense in his head. Besides, the function for an alarm feature is to ALARM, not kill. This means that his conscience was disabled, and on seeing an enemy, his most basic instinct kicked in- destroying. We know it’s his basic instinct, because, throughout the show, Jacques has been pretty violent, and sometimes did violent stuff he later might have regretted. So, why was his conscience disabled?
Notice the fact that he has no hat on, and he had his hat in Daikatana. If Conan Games stands after Daikatana, an episode with the hat, where Jacques was peaceful, and the next episode after that had no hat, and Jacques was killing everyone, that means, The Hat is the reason for Jacques’ behavior.

The explanation for this is, The Hat is a crucial part of Jacques. You read me right, The Hat is actually part of Jacques. For yet unknown reasons, The Hat calms Jacques down and lets him do rational decisions. Jon was designing Jacques with the hat on, so he didn’t know that The Hat actually makes the difference to Jacques when it’s on his creator’s head.
Doing a random Conan review, he decided to remove the hat to wear a laurel to fit the theme. That episode was the day Jon realized he should never take the mysterious Hat off. Here’s a recap of these 2 eras (click on it to see the whole thing):
Making that safe decision, JonTron moves on to The Hat Era.

This Era may start with any episodes that doesn’t have any crucial plot points, but for the sake of Rockington I’ll start with Bubsy.

Jon was hanging out with Rockington, but Jacques interrupted the party and teleported Jon back into the house to review Bubsy 1-3. This episode is important plot-wise because Rockington was lost, and then mentioned in Nuts & Bolts.
Then, a lot of time passed, comes Stairfax. It was said by Jon that it has been 1 year since he did Daikatana. That means not just Bubsy, but a lot of other episodes came before Stairfax in The Hat Era. In Stairfax, Jon reviews Starfox Adventures and throws it into space.

After which, Jon reviews a lot of dinosaur related media(not just games, he also reviewed Jurassic Park: The Lost World), which was then mentioned in Home Improvement.

Next comes the Hatless Era. This is the Era when there is no hat, but Jacques is still there. Why? Jon removed The Hat, and Jacques can operate normally without it. This means, JonTron remade Jacques and the way he works so that he doesn’t need the Hat to not murder people and be normal. One of the episodes in this era is actually Nuts & Bolts. Yes, he has no hat there.
The disk of Starfox crashes into Nuts & Bolts in space, which causes Nuts & Bolts to rocket off to Earth. Jon exclaims that he lost Rockington, and Nuts & Bolts crashes into his backyard, and after a few casualties, Jon reviews the game, ties it to a rock and throws it into the sea. Now, there are theories that this rock may be Rockington. However, those are just theories, and we have no real confirmation on what that rock really is. Here’s the recap of these two eras:
After ridding himself of a nightmare that plagued him for so long, JonTron continued to play and review games with Jacques, his best friend. And thus, I’m concluding my take on a timeline of JonTron. Here’s a little extra for you, though.

There are actually many universes in the JonTron world. Not only are there many Future Jons, created by Girard playing Final Hallway, but there’s also Malkovich, and Sonic Team Jon. Here’s a list of all of those universes:

1. The universe where Jon Jafari decides to play and review games, and becomes JonTron. Note that “JonTron” only refers to Jon the game reviewer, and not every Jon that exists.
2. The universe where Jon Jafari decides to create a TV Show, Gaming Guilty Pleasures. This universe crosses over with the first universe. First, Malkovich hosts Gaming Guilty Pleasures in his original universe. In JonTron’s universe, there exists a show called Gaming Game Show, hosted by someone yet unknown. Then, Malkovich somehow goes into JonTron’s universe, possibly kills the original host of the show, and becomes the new host. However, it turns out that his universe crossing abilities are the only way to repel the Randor, and for him not to get hurt, he was frozen, so that he would be preserved until his powers are needed. JonTron then replaces him as the host, destroys a Randor spy, Vitelia, and awakens Malkovich.
3. Future Jons. Those are the JonTrons from the future that sent themselves back in time to stop the Final Fantasy Reckoning. The interesting thing to note about them is that they don’t have Jacques. Did he die in the future? Or is the time machine only allowing 1 person to be transported?
4. Jon decides to join Sonic Team. He also does a lot of cocaine and makes Sonic R. He wasn’t responsible for all the travesty that happened to Sonic, as JonTron, in a universe where he wasn’t in Sonic Team, still experiences the horror of what became of Sonic. This universe doesn’t cross with any other universes, it’s literally Jon doing cocaine.

That's all! If you're here and don't know what this website is, this is the devlog for JonTron: The Game. Yes, that's an actual thing, it's an RPG/Point and Click Adventure game based on JonTron's game reviews. To all others, I'LL GO BACK TO MAKING IT DADDY STOP BEATING ME PLEASE

Jon's hairy chest

There are chests in this game. They don't really contain items, they have apples in them. By touching them, you get a number of apples. They are programmed just like enemies, they just have 1 hp, don't attack or move. So you open them by attacking them. Just like in Monster Bash. Oh and about those tiles, they are actually randomly picked from about 13 black tiles. I'm planning on implementing this randomizing tiles system in more types of tiles, so maybe in a perfect future, battles will look different each time you play them (not play different, just look different, I'm not that cool to make procedural levels).

Next update on 1st of April

I am back!

Guess who's back! Hell yeah! I can go back to the development of  Point and ech I have no idea what to call this game. New this week:

What in bloody shoddy sod gods are those poorly drawn things on the right, you may ask. Well, those are doors, in a sense. They are solid and you can't go through them. In some battles, you absolutely must kill all the enemies before these "doors" are destroyed. This is made so that players couldn't be able to bypass any of the enemies of this game, because if they do, that means the players won't have the items required to beat that battle layout, and the areas that come after that battles are designed around the player having those items. And the players that bypassed the required items and enemies can be potentially fucked.

Now, if you for some reason need to grind Apples in battles, that may get tedious, as not all enemies get as much reward per the speed of them dying, and this system can get tedious. That's why I'll try my hardest to design my battles around both the times you need to grind through them and around actually conquering them for the first time. But for now, Towel Mountains gets this.

Marinated sausages

There's a chance that I might get my computer to work tomorrow. Until then, happy birthday, Jon.

Not so sorry

I'm having severe technical difficulties. I couldn't do anything with the game these 3 days, and I have no idea how long this will continue.

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

Sorry

The Dinosity Ruins has 2 unique types of enemies:
For a lack of better terminology and imagination, this thing's gonna be called Blob for now. It's fast, and it has better strength than any other enemy, which gives it more health and damage. But it's not as strong as the other enemy..
These are Dinosity Cavemen. They were called the same thing in Dinocity too, so don't blame me. They aren't as fast, but they have a lot of hp, deal a lot of damage and there's a lot of them, so if you plan on visiting the area, you must be much more heavily prepared than how you were prepared for Towel Mountains or Smite Plains.

Also, this blog is now officially 2 months and 1 day old! *music of celebration*

some random ruins of an ancient civisliszation, never heard that one before

RuinsDinosity is a new battle layout. It has this grass in it. It's half transparent, and you can walk through it, and it's purely cosmetical. But it looks cool when you walk through it, I guess.

*Witty joke involving bottles and plagiarism*

There is now a new item: a bucket!

Well, how do you use a bucket? Right now, you can use it to store chocolate milk in it, from the Chocolate Milk river.

(sorry for the glitch in the first screenshot, I'll fix it later) But, just using a bucket on the Chocolate river won't do anything. Instead..

The health potion requires a bucket and 50 apples to make, and it takes up the bucket, so you can't brew multiple potions from 1 bucket. You will be able to get multiple buckets on your journey. The potion heals you during combat, and it can also overheal!
The bucket will have more things to store in it later on, not just potions. Next update, you will probably see more of Dinosity.

JonTron: The Game, now inspired by Nightshade!

Before, presenting items was only used in specific layouts. It was like a button, or a drop down list, or any interactive item. The PresentItem object was removed... and now, it's a new menu option!
When pressing the U button, a grid displaying all your items is created, all the other objects become half transparent, and you can't go to other layouts, so that you don't do that accidentally when using an item. You use items by clicking on them.

Now I know what you're probably thinking.

"What's the fucking difference?" - Jacques Armani

Well, with the menu, you can use items at any time, anywhere, and not just at some specific times. Which means, it will give me more room with battling situations and the point and click part of the game. It will be easier to program one use only combat items, like potions and bombs or something, do stuff like keys, giving letters to old guys, just straight up giving things, and it will give me a lot more literal space in the layouts where the PresentItem object would be used.

Hey, now it can be called point and clichk, not a slooooooow scroll over there. Keep going. Keep going.

The riddles are stupid, what do?!?!??

The riddles are almost unintelligible. If you can't figure them out, what can you do? Well, you can approach Forry, give him a strategy guide of this game.
For a price, he will give you the parts of the translation of the guide that you need, per riddle.

Fuck, I posted the update 1 day earlier than I should have! Just to keep up with the schedule, I'll post the next update in 4 days instead of 3, on Marth 6th.

The new "Elf Monster" Riddle

He asks something about Jon's image..? I have no idea what these say.

I've been working with Mashed Potato Samurai for a long time to deliver this

I'LL GO BACK TO DOING ACTUAL STUFF RIGHT NOW I'M SORRY

In all seriousness, this took a long time to do and it's just as worthwhile as doing the game in my opinion, if I don't extend my skillset and change up my routine, I may start to suck at designing games.

Totally normal update

So, I'm finally done with the desert area. I made all the random layouts and stuff. And here's a video describing it.

Oh by the way
